Adrift Mode
Adrift Mode: Confused, Compliant, Contemplative.
- Definition: The worker feels adrift, lacking clarity and direction in their RTW journey.
- RTW View: Generally feels they need to Recover before they can RTW. However, this tends to be a matter of degrees. Usually there is a 'threshold' of recovery where they feel that RTW will be more "manageable" even though they are not fully recovered.
- Characteristics:
- Low sense of control (passive, relying on external guidance).
- Moderate understanding of their situation
- Moderate understanding of the process and where they are in it
- Uncertain about RTW readiness or steps.
- Poor sense they can manage things (i.e. their pain, the process, returning to work, communicating others)
- Potentially "Fuzzy" meaningfulness (i.e. want and/or need) to work and/or RTW.
- Will do what’s asked but lacks initiative.
- Low sense of control (passive, relying on external guidance).
- Key Strategy: Find the source of being adrift.
- Are they directionless?
- Are they unclear 'how' to steer the ship?
- Are they unclear on how to deal with various perceived barriers.
